The greatest film of all time is one of 2001 A Space Odyssey; All Quiet on the Western Front; and if I was feeling generous maybe the Godfather ( though that's not one of my absolute personal favourites. In the final analysis different genres make it hard to make a judgement call. Eg The Pianist is the greatest holocaust film but it's a struggle to compare it with The Life of Brian. Terrence Malik films are probably the most beautiful ever made but that's not an aspect of say a very staged production like Glengarry, Glen Ross. One could go on.
